The Mark New Award was established by his family in his memory as a quiet
achiever
and his volunteering spirit with organisations such as the Haemophilia Foundation and the Volunteer Coast Guard in Queensland. Mark was born
with haemophilia and along with a significant number of people with haemophilia here in Australia acquired HIV through contaminated blood
products, specifically clotting factor concentrates, used to treat their condition. This resulted in a tragic intersection of a
bleeding disorder and a blood-borne infection, impacting individuals, families, and the broader bleeding disorders community.
The Mark New Award will be offered annually to a neonatal nurse who 'embodies the spirit of volunteering' in their commitment to helping, fostering connections and making a positive impact on the ACNN community. Often these men and women are quiet achievers who might otherwise not be recognised.
Nomination Process
Members serving on the ACNN Executive or a Branch or Special Interest Group committee are encouraged to nominate a fellow committee
member, outlining their 'spirit of volunteering' attributes.
Award
The recipient receives $1000 in recognition of their achievement.
2026 Nominations open Wednesday 8th April 2026.
